October 17, 2007,
Children's Culture Connection held their first "interactive"
fundraiser to support the girls of ASHA's Better Life Education
Program located in Pune, India . Held at Chapati
restaurant, guests enjoyed an Indian banquet dinner, a silent
auction of authentic Indian cultural items and textiles, and an
informal fashion show featuring Dina Fesler's Taj Mahal
Collection.
With the
funds raised, in the spring of 2008 CCC will conduct a
week-long workshop in India taking these girls on field
trips and inspirational outings. Designed to spark
their imaginations by showing them the possibilities of life outside
the slums that they live in, these outings (including art museums,
concerts, athletic activities, restaurants, coffee shops and
craft-making) will offer
a range of multi-sensory experiences these girls will likely never
forget.
Also, in order to help the guests better understand
how valued their donations are, they were each asked to bring a
blank page journal with them to the event. At the conclusion of the
workshop in India, each girl will
be given a journal where over the next six months she will
record her thoughts, feelings and ideas on her life.
Journals
will be tracked and portions translated and sent back to the donor
to show the progress and development of the girl who received his or
her journal.
A beautiful
gift for both the giver as well as the
receiver.
